Make Glue on Nails Last Longer

With a full set of salon acrylic nails running between $25-$100 it's no wonder women are turning to glue on nails as a cheaper alternative. Not only is the initial cost of salon nails high, getting fill-ins and maintenance every 2 weeks can run you between $10-$50 on top of that! Glue on nails offer a more economical choice to salon nails as you can buy them at most stores for between $6-$20 and they usually contain enough fingernails for two manicures. But many women experience problems making their glue on nails last longer than just a few days. If done improperly, they can pop off easily and look unnatural. But don't fear! With the right technique you can make glue on nails last longer and look as beautiful as if you went to the salon for a manicure. Follow these instructions to achieve professional results with glue on fingernails. Does this Spark an idea?

Choose the right set of glue on nails. Store bought nails come in a variety of lengths and styles from French manicure nails, pre-polished nails, airbrushed nails, plain nails and pre-glued nails. The best way to get a great looking manicure is to opt for nails that are pre-polished. This way, the nail polish will never chip and you don't have to worry about mistakes. Glue on French nails can look stunning, but due to the clear nature of the nails they can be difficult to apply without getting air bubbles. Also be sure to chose a short-medium length nail. The longer the fingernails are the more likely it is that they will pop off. I personally use Revlon Nail Stay Maximum Wear Nails. They last the longest and don't chip or break easily.

Prep your natural nails to ensure proper glue on nail adhesion. Wash your hands and clip your natural fingernails down short. Then take a nail file and gently buff your nails to roughen up the surface. Don't scrub them hard with the file, you just need to sand them lightly to make a rough surface for the glue to stick to. Then take a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover and rub it over your nails to remove nail file dust and oil that could interfere with glue adhesion.

Put a disposible glove over the hand you'll be using to apply your nails with to protect it from coming into contact with stray drops of fingernail glue. Pick out the nails that fit your hand. Make sure the nails are small enough to fit INSIDE of your cuticle. The nails shouldn't overlap your cuticles or touch your skin. You can file them down if they don't fit properly. Line up the nails in order on your work surface. Put on one fingernail at a time; the glue dries fast so you don't want to glue the nails until you're ready to use them. Put one to two drops of nail glue on the back of the artificial nail. Then carefully place it over your natural nail. Do not push down, just barely lay it on top of your real fingernail and adjust until it is in the right place. Then, push it down very firmly into place and hold it there for 30 seconds. Repeat this process for all remaining nails. Then switch the glove to the other hand and repeat until your manicure is complete.

Don't freak out if you inadvertently got glue on the skin around your fingernails. Just put on a glove and use a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover to gently scrub off the excess glue. Don't worry if it doesn't all come off. The glue will eventually slough off after 24 hours or so.

When you're ready to remove the nails and do a fresh manicure, soak your fingers in acetone nail polish remover for several minutes. Then take a manicure stick and gently pry the fake fingernails from your natural ones. Don't force the nails off; if they don't lift away easily, soak them in the nail polish remover longer to dissolve the glue further.
