How to Drywall Tape & Use a Corner Tool
Hanging drywall is one of those jobs that many homeowners tackle at one time or another. Once it has been measured, cut and screwed into the studs, the next step is to apply joint compound, or patch, to cover all of the seams the sheets create. The trickiest area to patch are the corners. However, with the right tools and a little know-how you can have the job completed in no time. Does this Spark an idea?

Apply a thin layer of patch to the corner with the cornering tool. As you run the tool down the corner from ceiling to floor, apply pressure to the center of the tool and twist your wrist at the end of each stroke. This will allow for thin feathered edges.

Cut a piece of mesh tape to size with a utility knife and apply it to the corner so that an equal amount of tape is on each side of the corner joint. Wait about one hour for the tape and patch layer to fully set up.

Add additional coats of patch with the cornering tool as needed. Wait an hour between each coat.

Remove any lines or ridges that develop during application of the patch with a 150-grit sandpaper. If a smoother finish is desired go over the area with a damp sponge.
