How to Remove Red & Brown Skin Discolorations

Save

Extensive sun exposure causes skin damage, which results in red and brown freckles and, later in life, large age or liver spots. To avoid having discoloration, you should always wear sunscreen, especially when in contact with water or snow environments, because sun is reflected from these surfaces, resulting in more skin burning and damage.

If you have problematic freckles, skin discoloration or age spots, there are ways to remove them. Home removal methods involve common household items, little expense and a lot of patience.

Things You'll Need

  • Lemons
  • Sugar
  • Cotton swabs
  • Knife
  • Aloe plant
  • Buttermilk
  • Cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice into a bowl. Mix enough juice and white sugar together to make a paste. Rub the paste into age spots or freckles on your arms, neck, hands and feet. The sugar acts as an exfoliant, while the citric acid bleaches your skin. Note: Using lemons on your face may dry your skin.

  • Leave the lemon mixture on the spots for about 10 minutes. Rinse the juice and sugar away with cool water. Continue this each night before you go to bed. The spots should begin to fade in about two weeks.

  • Use buttermilk for red or brown spots on your face. The lactic acid in the buttermilk acts as a mild exfoliant and softens the skin and promotes healing, allowing healthy, light cells to replace the discolored ones.

Dip a cotton swab in buttermilk and rub it over your spots in a gentle, circular motion. Let the milk dry on your face then rinse it away with cool water. Use the buttermilk each night as part of your routine. Your freckles should begin to fade in three weeks to a month.

  • For healing and moisture, use aloe vera. Pinch the end of an aloe leaf from a living plant. About an inch of the leaf should do. Squeeze a little sap from the leaf and rub it over your face in a circular motion until it is completely rubbed in. Since aloe has little scent and is good for the skin you can leave it on your skin all day or night. It should fade your spots in two to three weeks.
