1
Remove big pieces of the grout with a piece of wood. Oak sticks that are about ¼ inch thick and 1 inch wide will work well. These can be purchased at home improvement centers or you can make them yourself. Dampen the grout with a rag and water to make it easier to remove. Scrape the grout from the tile with the sticks, removing as much grout as possible.
-
2
Wipe the tile with a wet rag to further remove the remaining grout.

3
Rub the grout-stained area of the tile gently with a fine-wool scouring pad. Avoid scrubbing too hard or the tile may become damaged. Wipe the area again with a wet rag.
-
4
Dip a few cotton balls in nail varnish remover. Wipe this over any tough-to-remove grout still on the tile. Follow up by wiping the tile with a rag dipped in soapy water.
-
5
Polish the tile with a dry cloth. Once the tile is completely dry, inspect the tile for any remaining grout.
-
6
Remove any efflorescence or haze remaining on the tile with a commercial grout haze remover. These products can be purchased at most home improvement or flooring centers. Get a product that is safe for use on your specific type of tile.
