How to Get Your Headset to Work on Ventrilo Only

If you want to hear music and sounds from a video game through your external speakers for everyone to enjoy while you are questing or raiding, but want to keep any comments made by your fellow teammates or members of your guild on the Vent to yourself, one of the things you can do is set up your PC so that your headset will only work on Ventrilo, leaving the rest of the computer alone.

Things You'll Need

  • Headset, line-in or USB. (USB preferred)
  • Additional sound output (speakers preferred)
  • Go to the Start menu and click on "Control Panel."

  • Double-click on the "Sounds" setting.

  • Click on the "Audio" tab to open the sound settings.

  • Set the "Sound Playback" choice to any sound device you have other than your headset, then press "OK."

  • Open Ventrilo, then click on "Setup" to open up the Vent settings.

  • Change the "Output device" box in the upper-right to the headset you want to use. If your headset isn't a USB headset, select the "Line out" option.
