      Package the item you are shipping in the box or envelope or take the item to a UPS Store to be packaged. Be sure it is securely packaged. UPS does not take responsibility for items that are damaged while being shipped.

      Inform the cashier at UPS that you would like a C.O.D. on your package to make sure you are given and fill out the correct shipping label and forms. Write the address and the amount that you wish to collect on the label. UPS allows up to $50,000 to be collected on delivery. If you are mailing the package to a residential address, include the receiver's telephone number. UPS will notify the receiver of the time and date that the package will be delivered and how much money will be collected.

      Notify the receiver how they should make the payment and how much it will be. UPS accepts personal or business checks or any other types of negotiable payment. You may also request that they receiver have permission to pay with a money order or cashier's check.

      Pay for the shipping and the C.O.D. Adding a C.O.D. will add $10 to the shipping cost. C.O.D's are only available on packages that ship in the United States or Puerto Rico.
