How to Install a Restaurant Vent Hood
Starting a new restaurant involves bringing an older restaurant or other building to the specifications you need for your own restaurant. At the cooking range, you will need a vent hood, also called an exhaust hood. You can actually install the hood yourself fairly easily. Before installing the vent hood, check the sturdiness of the area on the wall where the vent will be fixed. If not sturdy enough, the hood might shift or the wall might give. If the location is faulty, the area around the vent will deteriorate.

How to Install a Restaurant Vent Hood
-
1
Choose a wall spot that is sturdy enough to withstand the weight of the vent hood. The hood should be about thirty inches above the cooking range. Draw the dimensions of the vent hood where it will be situated on the wall, with a pencil.
-
2
Turn off the power to the kitchen area at the circuit breaker. If you want, also use a voltage detector to ensure that the wiring is not live.
-
-
3
Saw a square area where the vent hood will be placed. Fasten all loose wire in the area with insulated staples, to prevent the wiring from getting pinched behind the hood.
-
4
If necessary, drive holes through the wall studs where the hood is to be installed. This will give a space for electrical wire to be run through.
-
5
Place battens and then a wallboard patch to the opening in the wall. Bore holes in this rectangular piece of wallboard so that wiring can be fed through.
-
6
Fasten the wallboard in place with drywall screws.
-
7
Install a temporary brace where the hood can sit, if you are working alone. This will free up your hands to wire and screw the hood in place.
-
8
Put the vent hood in place. Run the wiring through the back of the hood.
-
9
Screw the vent hood in place, preferably to cabinets above the hood or to the side of the hood.
-
10
Run the wires through the wallboard. Attach the ground wire to the green screw, and twist the white and black wires together. Place a wire nut over the connection to secure it.
-
11
Place the air filters into the hood. Switch the circuit on. Also put in any halogen lights or other necessary pieces to complete installation.
