Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the cake mix according the box directions. Set aside. Preheat your oven to the temperature listed on the cake mix directions.

    • 2

Choose a 1 or 2 qt., oven safe glass bowl. Prepare the bowl by greasing heavily with butter and flouring the inside liberally. Tip the bowl upside down and gently shake out any remaining flour, making sure the entire inside of the bowl is coated with flour.

    • 3

Pour the cake batter into the prepared bowl. Leave a 1-inch space between the batter and the top of the bowl. Place the bowl in the oven in the center of the middle rack.

    • 4

Bake the cake for the required amount of time. Test the cake by using a cake tester, such as a toothpick or skewer. Place the cake tester into the middle of the cake and remove to see if batter clings to the tester. If the batter clings, continue baking for a few minutes until the middle is set and the tester comes out dry.

    • 5

Remove the cake from the oven and place the bowl on a wire rack to cool. Remove the cake from the bowl by running a knife between the cake and the bowl to loosen. Invert the bowl onto the wire rack and remove the bowl from the cake. Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.

Tips & Warnings

  • For dense cake recipes, consider turning your oven temperature 25 degrees lower than the recommended baking temperature on the cake mix box due to increased baking time needed for heavier cakes.

  • Check to make sure your bowl is safe for the oven by looking for a stamp at the bottom. If you are unsure, do not use your bowl for baking.

  • Make sure the bowl you choose is free of cracks, chips or defects.

  • When choosing smaller glass bowls for baking, place the appropriate amount of batter in each. Do not overfill.
