How to Create a Chord Chart in MS Word
A chord chart is a chart that shows the notes in a chord. Typically, these chords are created for guitar and are the chord symbols placed over the piano and vocal part in a piece of music arranged for piano, vocal and guitar. The chords are shown on a graph representing the neck of the guitar. Using the table feature in Microsoft Word, it's easy to create a chord chart.

1
Go to the "Table" menu and select the "Draw Table" option. This will give you a pencil for your cursor. Draw a square on your blank document in the upper left hand corner. The size of the square depends upon how many chord diagrams you want to get across the page. Aim for about five across, though more or less is fine.

2
Draw four vertical lines inside the square, each running from top to bottom. Don't worry about keeping the lines spaced evenly or drawing them straight. The lines will automatically snap straight. To evenly space the lines, right click your mouse inside the square, select "Autofit" from the pop-up menu, and choose the "Autofit to Contents" option. Draw vertical lines across the horizontal lines to represent the frets of the guitar.

Use the "Insert" menu and select "Symbols." Choose the black circle bullet to show the fingerings for the chord. Click on the fret in your graph where you want to place a finger marking and insert it from the symbols table. For dead strings, use a small x and for strings played open, use a small o.

Type the full name of the chord beneath each chord graph. If you like, you can type the individual notes making up the chord in parenthesis beside the chord name, but this is not conventional.
