How to Build a Popsicle Dollhouse

Do you remember making Popsicle dollhouses when you were young? It's a fun craft project, and easy to do. It's also the perfect way to recycle all of those sticks left from the Popsicles your children consume throughout the summer. Save those Popsicle sticks, and you will have the makings for a perfect project to keep your children occupied during rainy fall afternoons. They can make a simple hut or a grand mansion with individually constructed rooms, depending on their level of ambition.

Instructions

    • 1

Line up 10 to 12 Popsicle sticks so they are touching. Place another stick across the tops of the lined up sticks, about ¼ inch from their tops. Glue it to them. Glue another stick across the sticks, ¼ inch from the bottoms.

    • 2

Repeat Step 1 four times, so you have a total of five uniform squares. These squares will form the walls, ceiling, and floor of one dollhouse room.

    • 3

Lay two Popsicle sticks vertical to one another. Lay two more sticks horizontally across the first two sticks to form a square. Glue together.

    • 4

Lay one of the squares you made in Step 1 and Step 2 over the square you made in Step 3. Position the top square so that the side with the 2 Popsicle sticks glued to it is flat against the bottom square. Line the two squares up and glue them together. This forms the floor of one dollhouse room.

    • 5

Glue three of the remaining squares perpendicular to the floor, to form three of the dollhouse room walls. One of the walls will remain open, so you can access the room.

    • 6

Glue the sixth square to the tops of the walls, to form the ceiling to the dollhouse room.

    • 7

Make as many rooms as you'd like for your dollhouse. Glue the rooms together so the open walls all face in the same direction.

    • 8

Decorate your dollhouse interior with scraps of fabric or carpet. Paint in doors, windows, wall art, and lamps. Add dollhouse furnishings and dolls.
