How to Use an RTF File for Web Content

A rich text document (RTF) file is a specific format that uses code to layout documents. You can convert the RTF file format to HTML using Word. Microsoft Word is capable of reading the RTF code. Using the software's "Save As" function, you can convert an RTF file to HTML and upload the results to your web server. This is the quickest and easiest way to convert the RTF file format to a usable web page.

Instructions

1. Right-click the RTF file on your computer and select "Open With." Select "Microsoft Word" in the list of applications displayed.

2. Click the "File" menu item at the top of the Word window. If you are using Word 2007, click the Office button at the top-left corner.

3. Select "Save As" from the list of menu items. This opens a new window where you can convert Word documents to a number of file formats. If you are using Word 2007, select "Save As Web Page."

4. Select "HTML" in the document type drop down box if you are using a version of Word older than 2007. For all versions of Word, enter a file name for the converted HTML document.

5. Click the "Save" button. The document is converted from the RTF format to HTML.
