How to Make an iPod Sock
Protect your iPod from the elements by making your own iPod sock rather than buying one from Apple directly. They can be as simple or as complex as you want them to be in design, though they're all easily creatable on your own with some basic sewing skills and supplies. Create one with the right details and it might make all the difference in protecting your iPod while out walking or riding your bike during a driving rainstorm.
Things You'll Need
- Piece of denim 3/4 inch beyond dimensions of iPod

Choosing the Material
-
1
Cut a piece of denim or other stiff fabric material into a square shape that extends three-quarters of an inch beyond the dimensions of your particular iPod. Wrap the fabric around your iPod to get a general idea of what the material will look like once the sock is completed. Excess edges will be trimmed later.
-
2
Find a different-colored fabric material and cut into a narrow 3 inch-long strip to go along the top edge of the sock as a trimming.
-
-
3
Sew the trimming into the top edge of the denim and pin the edges of the sock where you'll cut excess material after sewing the sock together.
Sewing
-
4
Hand-stitch the sides and bottom of your denim sock so it holds together securely.
-
5
Use a sewing machine to sew the bottom and edge together if you're not adept at sewing by hand.
-
6
Take a scissors and cut the excess denim and trimming that overlap the sewing stitches.
-
7
Place your iPod into the sock to make sure it fits snugly.

Tips & Warnings
Buy some Velcro circles at your local supply store to place inside your sock cuff as a way to keep the sock closed so water from rain doesn't get inside.
Consider sewing an embroidered design onto your denim sock before you do the final sewing procedure. Make it personalized with your initials or other personal design if you so choose.
If you have no sewing skills at all, Apple does sell iPod socks, though don't have Velcro on them to hold iPods firmly inside.
