How to Melt Ice Fast
Ice may be pretty to look at when it covers the branches on trees, but it poses a serious threat when located on the ground. Since it's often hard to see, many people are unaware when they're about to step on an icy road, walkway or stairway. To eliminate the potential for falling (which can lead to broken bones, concussions, and bruises) it's best to melt the ice completely. This is especially true on areas that are well-traveled, such as your porch steps and sidewalks. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Break the ice into smaller pieces with a hammer. The smaller the ice is, the quicker it melts.
-
2
Fill a large pot with water. Put it on the stove on high heat and let it come to a full rolling boil.
-
-
3
Dump the boiling water directly on the ice. Be cautious when pouring boiling water as it can burn your skin immediately upon contact.
-
4
Dump pellet salt over the area to prevent the water from freezing if you are melting ice in an outside area such as a sidewalk or driveway. Salt naturally lowers the freezing point of water, which makes it so the temperature must be much cooler than 32 degrees for water to freeze.
