Instructions

    • 1

Mix the piñata glue. Pour two cups of flour and three cups of water into a large bowl and mix with a spoon until the resulting white paste stirs smoothly with no large lumps.

    • 2

Fill a flaccid balloon with candy. Stick small pieces of candy into the balloon from its single open end. If you have a hard time, try stretching the balloon's opening over the end of a tube, such as the cardboard roll that comes on the inside of a toilet paper roll. Then, shove the candy through the tube and into the balloon.

    • 3

Blow up the balloon when you're done stuffing it with candy. Blow it up until it is the size that you want the final pinata to be.

    • 4

Tear newspaper sheets into inch-wide strips. Dip both sides of the strips in the pinata glue that you mixed in Step 1. Place the strips on the balloon until the balloon is entirely covered in wet newspaper. Leave one small section of the balloon uncovered.

    • 5

Set the balloon aside to dry. Depending on your climate, it may take 24 to 48 hours to dry thoroughly. If you want to hasten the drying process, place the balloon in front of a fan.

    • 6

Use a needle and poke the balloon where you left it slightly exposed in Step 4. The balloon will pop, releasing the candy inside of the newspaper shell. Decorate the piñata with paint, glitter, markers or any decorations you have on hand.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of using newspaper, you can also use colored craft paper or even plain white paper. Experiment with various colors to create new designs and patterns.

  • Be careful when using the needle, as you don't want to poke yourself.
