Trellis yarn is a colorful, shiny ladder-ribbon yarn with a lace pattern. Because of its delicacy and airy look, it can make a lovely necklace that falls around your neckline in a style very similar to multi-layered pearls. Making this unique piece of jewelry is simple and inexpensive. In fact, although a crochet hook is suggested, it's not even necessary. You can make the whole thing with just a ball of yarn and your own two hands.
Step 1
Measure out about an arm's length of yarn, but don't cut it.

Create a slip knot.
Step 3
Start crocheting with the chain stitch. Bend the yarn and pull it through the knot's loop, which will create another loop. You can use your fingers, but a crochet hook makes it a little easier to keep your loops the same size. Pull the yarn through the second loop, which creates yet another loop. Pull the yarn through this third loop, and continue this way. Chain 100 stitches. On the final stitch, pull the remaining yarn all the way through, and measure another arm's length of yarn for the next piece.
Step 4
On this second piece, chain 90 stitches. On the final stitch, pull the remaining yarn all the way through and measure another arm's length of yarn.
Step 5
On the third piece, chain 80 stitches. On the last stitch, pull the remaining yarn through and measure another arm's length of yarn.
Step 6
On the fourth piece, chain 70 stitches. On the final stitch, pull the remaining yarn all the way through and measure another arm's length of yarn.
Step 7
On the fifth piece, chain 60 stitches. On the final stitch, pull through the yarn and measure out more yarn.
Step 8
On the sixth piece, chain 50 stitches. On the final stitch, pull the yarn through and measure another arm's length of yarn.
Step 9
On the seventh piece, chain 40 stitches, then pull the tail of the yarn through.
Step 10
Gather all the right ends of the strands together and tie them together in a knot. Then gather all the left ends of the strands together and tie those ends in a knot.
Step 11
Braid the ends on the right side together. Then braid the ends on the left side together. Finally, tie both ends together with a knot. You can cut the remaining yarn to whatever length you wish to fall down the back.
Tip
Put a dot of craft glue or nail polish on the yarn ends to prevent fraying.
Twist all the strands before knotting for a different look.
Make your necklace bigger by creating additional chains, or shorten it by creating less of them.
Use a different color yarn for each chain to create a lively rainbow-colored result.
