How to Hook Up Your Computer to Your TV

If you are looking to hook up your PC to a TV, you are in luck, this project is easier than you might think.

Things You'll Need

• PC Computer
• Wireless Keyboard Preferred
• Wireless Mouse Preferred
• VGA Cable
• VGA Compatible TV (most flat screens)
• Cable splitter (for modem)
• Y Cable (for audio)

Instructions

1. Be sure your TV is VGA compatible and that your computer uses VGA. Most flat screen TVs are VGA compatible but some are not.

   If either your TV or your computer is not VGA compatible, do not fear, there are other options at the electronics store using adapters for DVI and HDMI.

2. Turn your PC and your computer off. You will want to connect the VGA cable to both the TV and the PC.

3. Connect the VGA cable to both the TV and the PC. This VGA cable is for video only. Audio is a separate connection.

4. Connect the sound from your PC to Your computer using a Y audio cable. The single end goes into PC and the double end goes into the audio inputs on your TV. Please note, these are color coded.

5. Disconnect your cable feed from the cable box. Attach the cable splitter on the cable feed on the single side. Attach two new cables into the double side. One will connect to the cable box, the other will connect to your cable modem. Now you will have the internet on your TV!

6. Plug in and turn on Cable Box, TV, Modem and PC.

7. To get the picture on your TV screen from your computer you will have to use the input button on your TV remote control and scroll through until you get your video from your computer. Some TVs will tell have the input numbers clearly on the back of the TV. If you need additional help finding the correct input, you should be able to find this in your TV manual.

8. Go wireless when possible. Wireless keyboards and mice can be found in every price range starting at $24.00. The simplest and less bulky wireless solution is to get the USB plug-in transmitter. Its just a tiny little device without a desktop box that some wireless keyboards and mice have. Wireless printers are also very convenient when hooking your PC up to your TV and can be purchased with the small USB transmitter as well.
