    Instructions

Eat firm crunchy natural foods. Crunchy foods such as celery and apples help to remove food particles that may stick to the teeth. Soft foods, such as chocolate and peanut butter, for example, tent to get stuck in the crevices between the teeth. Stuck food helps to promote bacteria and increase the chances of developing gingivitis.

Get ample amounts of fiber. While the fiber doesn't directly take the bacteria away from your teeth to reduce the chances of getting gingivitis, what fiber does is it helps to improve your body's immune system. Fiber rich foods such as whole grains, fruits, beans and vegetables provide the necessary building blocks for a healthy immune system which places your body in a better position to fight bacteria that causes gingivitis.

Stay away from sugars. Sugar on the teeth is like a Thanksgiving meal for bacteria. Bacteria thrive on sugar left on and in between the teeth. If you feel that you cannot give up sugar entirely, make sure to brush your teeth afterward.
