How to Export Google Maps to Text

Google Maps offers accurate and easy to manipulate driving directions that can be printed in text format. Exporting your Google Maps driving directions to text makes it easy for users to save and print them. These text directions offer step-by-step instructions on how to travel between two destinations and includes detailed information on the time and distance that remains at each step.

Things You'll Need

• Internet connection
• Modern web browser such as Internet Explorer 7 or better, Firefox, Opera, Chrome or Safari

Instructions

1. Navigate to Google Maps using the link below (see Resources). Alternatively, you can enter the term "Google Maps" in your web browser address bar or search box to load the application.

2. Input the destinations you wish to travel between, beginning with the starting location. The format should be as below: starting location to ending location.

3. Click "Search Maps."

4. Select the driving directions you prefer from the list in the left sidebar. Google Maps will often give you a few different route options so that you can choose the directions you are most comfortable with. If only one option is available, it will immediately load the route.

5. Adjust the route as you see fit. For instance, if you would like to use different roads than what are suggested, simply drag the navigation path (the transparent blue line on the map) on the map to adjust the directions.

6. Click "Print" at the top right of the Google Maps interface to export the directions to text.

7. Select "Text only" at the top of the screen in the new window or tab that loads.

Tips & Warnings

• You can selectively include visual cues like street view or overview maps for any step in the destination-to-destination directions by simply hovering over the step and selecting the visual you wish to include.
