How to Start an Operating System in Safe Mode Through Virtual PC

Virtual PC is a program released alongside Windows 7 that allows users to emulate the environment of older versions of Microsoft Windows. This will enable you to keep using your favorite "non-Windows 7" software without seeing errors or blue screens during the process. As a full-fledged operating system within an operating system, Virtual PC will also enable you to boot directly into safe mode for troubleshooting the legacy Windows application.

  • Open the Virtual PC console to display a list of the virtual machines contained on your hard drive.

  • Select the chosen machine by clicking it with the mouse and pressing the "Start" button located on the menu to your right.

  • Repeatedly tap the F8 key as the virtual machine "boots up" to load it into safe mode, just as you would with any other version of Windows.
