How to Check The Frame Rate on the Call of Duty Video Game

Frame rate is an important aspect to gameplay as the higher the frames per second (FPS), the smoother a game renders--a rate of fewer than 30 FPS will make your game appear choppy. This is especially true in games where even a second's slip can kill your character. "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" by Activision for the PC is one of these games, but luckily checking your frame rate is quite simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "tilde" (~) key located just below the ESC key to open up the Developer Console while on an active map within the game.

    • 2

Type in "cg_drawFPS 1" to have your FPS (Frames per Second) displayed in the upper-right corner of your screen. It will continue to display even after you exit the Developer Console.

    • 3

Type "cg_drawFPS 0" if you wish to remove the FPS display from your screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • An easy way to increase your FPS and overall speed of the game is to turn off shadows. This can be done in the Options menu under the Graphics tab.

  • Console commands can also be used check how well your game connects to the server and what may be causing it to lag. To check your lag, type "drawlagometer 1" for a linegraph that displays your sync ratio with the sever (blue line for a high ratio, yellow for a poor ratio) and how quickly your packets are transferring (green line for fast, red for slow). Both of these can be adjusted using the" snaps" command to adjust sync and the "max_packets" command to change the number of packets you are sending.
