How to Make a Glass Scrabble Pendant
Scrabble tile pendant charms are a fun way to recycle old game pieces into usable pieces of jewelry to sell, give as a gift or for you. The tile jewelry is easy to transform and requires limited supplies to create. Additional embellishment, such as jewels and glitter, can be added to the tiles after the basic technique is mastered. Old Scrabble tiles can be found for a low cost at garage sales and thrift stores.

1
Trace a Scrabble tile onto card stock to make a template. Cut out the square approximately one millimeter larger on each side. Hold the template card over the decorator or scrapbook paper being used to make sure the pattern fits well within the space allowed. Trace the template onto the paper and cut out the square with a razor knife.

2
Lay the letter side of the Scrabble tile on a flat surface, making sure the letter is not upside down. Spread a small about of glue onto the backside of the cut piece of paper. Place the glue side of the paper on the backside of the Scrabble tile and gently press into place. Let the tile dry for 20 minutes.

3
Remove excess paper from the tile after the glue is dry by cutting it with a sharp scissors or razor knife. The paper should fit exactly on the tile with no overhang.
-
4
Apply a coat of a clear adhesive, such as Diamond Glaze, to the paper side of the tile to seal the paper and make the tile glossy like glass. Spread the glaze with the bottle tip to prevent brush streaks on the tile. Use the pointed end of a paint brush to slide bubbles off the tile. Let the tile dry for 4 hours.
-
5
File the paper edge to smooth it flush with the tile with a medium grit metal file. Take caution to not file the tile as the wood is soft.
-
6
Attach a silver bail to the letter side of the tile by gluing it with several drops of a jewelry adhesive. Make sure it is centered on the top edge of the tile. The silver bail is the loop that holds the tile on a chain. Let everything dry for several days before using.
