How to Clean Car Windows After Waxing

A clean, freshly-waxed car is a shiny thing of beauty, but wax on the windows is something else entirely. Aside from looking bad, smears of wax can interfere with clear vision. But not to worry: With a little old-fashioned elbow grease, it's not hard to clean wax off car windows.

Instructions

    • 1

Park your car in the sun and let it sit for an hour. Most car washes claim the wax they use is specially formulated to not adhere to glass. Letting it sit in the sun for awhile should soften it.

    • 2

Use a plastic scrubbing pad--the kind that looks like a ball of steel wool, not the sponge kind--to break up the wax. Use tight, circular motions and go over the whole window.

    • 3

Spray a generous amount of glass cleaner on the window. Most people do not use enough cleaner, so it dries and begins to streak before they can wipe it off, especially when the windows are hot.

    • 4

Wipe the glass cleaner off with a clean, lint-free towel. Work in an up-and-down motion, and make sure you get the corners.

    • 5

Spray the glass again and use a clean towel to go over the glass in a side-to-side motion, until all wax and any streaks are gone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a plastic scraper on large globs of dripped wax.

  • Do not use harsh chemicals on tinted windows, or those that have a factory-applied film.
