How to Make a Braided Lanyard Keychain

Arts and crafts are a great way to pass the time for children and adults alike, while allowing your creative juices to flow. Many craft projects are simple and require few items. This makes them ideal for bored children. Lanyard craft projects are a common occurrence in summer camps and scouting troops. Making a braided key chain out of lanyard string is a relatively simple and inexpensive project to start children out on.

  • Lanyard string in different colors
  • Key chain hook
  • Scissors

Instructions

    • 1

      Thread three strands of different colored lanyard through a key chain hook, pulling them so that they are at equal lengths.

      Cross strand A over strand B, then cross strand C over A, then strand B over C and continue on in that order until you have reached the desired length of the lanyard. Make sure to pull each strand equally tight to get an even looking braid.

      Tie the end of the lanyard. Pull all three strands of the lanyard tight and tie them off with a simple knot.

      Cut off the excess lanyard that is remaining after you have tied the knot.

  • Add more than three strings for an interesting braided key chain.
