How to Become a Boiler Operator

1. Meet the minimum requirement of having a high school diploma.

2. Complete informal on-the-job training or a formal training or apprenticeship program. An apprenticeship normally lasts four years and consists of approximately 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 600 hours of classroom instruction.

3. Many cities and states have licensing requirements that include being at least 18 years of age, residing in the city or state for a specified time period, passing an exam and having a certain amount of experience. Research the specific requirements for a boiler job in the state where you intend to work.
