Instructions

    • 1

Check the level and plumb of the header and side jambs of the door opening with a level. Measure the hinge side jamb from the header to the door sill with a tape measure. The hinge side will be the side of the opening opposite the interior door handle.

    • 2

Mark off the jamb measurement to the storm door hinge frame. Cut the hinge frame to the measurement with a hacksaw. Place the hinge frame tight against the door jamb and header and mark the top mounting hole location with a pencil.

    • 3

Pull the hinge frame out of the opening and drill a hole for the mounting screw into the jamb with a drill bit slightly smaller than the diameter of the retaining screw.

    • 4

Attach the storm door to the hinge side frame according to the manufacturer's instructions for your model. Most manufacturers have holes in the edge of the door for the securing screws to secure the hinge frame hinges.

    • 5

Set the hinge frame and door into the opening with the assistance of a helper. Ask the helper to hold the door tight against the jamb as you secure a retaining screw in the top hole of the hinge frame with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

    • 6

Press the bottom of the hinge frame firmly against the jamb and check the plumb with a level. Add small shims between the frame and jamb to level and straighten the frame. Secure the frame to the jamb with the retaining screws.

    • 7

Place the handle side frame against the opposite jamb and close the storm door after the frame is in place. There should be an 1/8-inch gap between the edge of the door and the frame. Secure the handle side frame to the jamb using the supplied securing screws.

    • 8

Set the header drip cap portion of the storm door frame between the top of the door and the header. Use a tape measure to ensure a consistent gap of 1/8-inch between the top of the door and the drip cap. Use shims as necessary between the drip gap and header frame. Secure the drip cap to the header with the supplied retaining screws.

Attach the remaining storm door hardware according to the specific manufacturer's instructions for your model after installing the storm door frame.
