Weather causes wood to swell, resulting in squeaks that were not there before a change in the weather. Dealing with a noisy wooden bed frame is frustrating when the squeak awakens you from a sound sleep. Burying your head under the pillow won’t solve the problem. Stopping a noisy bed frame can be done quickly and permanently once the squeak has been located. Soon you will enjoy a quiet night and a peaceful sleep.
Things You'll Need
- Adjustable pliers
- Plastic washer
- Talcum powder
Isolate the noise by rocking the frame to find the squeak. Two people can get this done quickly if one person rocks the frame and the second person locates the noise.
Tighten all screws or bolts that are loose. Rock the bed and listen for the squeak.
Remove the screws and spray with a lubricant. Replace the screws and rock the bed and listen for any squeaks.
Coat the screws with hard soap or beeswax. Replace the screws.
Remove metal washers and replace with plastic washers. Plastic washers will remove the chance that metal rubbing against metal is causing the noise.
Apply talcum powder or wax when wood is rubbing against wood. A thick scrap of cloth between the joint will also prevent the wood from rubbing.
