How to Replace a Jeep Transfer Case Mount
Replacing the transfer case mount on a Jeep Wrangler will eliminate movement in the drive train. The Jeep transfer case mount is a combination mount that supports the transmission and the transfer case together. The mount is made from rubber and steel, and separation of the mount is common. When the mount separates, the transmission and transfer case start to move around during acceleration and deceleration, causing noise and vibration under the Jeep. If left uncorrected, damage to the drive line can occur. You can buy a new mount from Jeep or at most auto parts stores.

1
Position a jack under the transmission of your Jeep to support the transmission and transfer case. Locate the four studs in the center of the transfer case skid plate that retain the bottom of the transmission/transfer case mount. Remove the nuts and washers from the studs with a ratchet or socket.

2
Locate the skid plate mounting bolts that run down the frame rails. There are six bolts total, three along each side. Loosen the nuts on all six bolts with a socket and ratchet, then remove the nuts by hand while supporting the skid plate. Lower the plate to the ground and set it out of the way.

Tips & Warnings
The transfer case skid plate is heavy, so a helper is a good idea when removing it. If you don't have a helper, use a floor jack to support the weight as you lower it down.
