How to Change PDF to Open in Preview

If you use a Mac computer, you have a small program called "Preview." Preview allows you to view different images and files without actually opening up a more specific program. Typically, when you view a PDF you use Adobe Acrobat Reader; however, Preview has the ability to display PDFs, and if you prefer the Mac program to the Adobe program you can easily open the PDF in Preview instead of any other software.

  • Power on your Mac computer and select the "Preview" program from your dock on the bottom of the screen. The Preview icon looks like a photograph of a child with a magnifying glass over the corner.

  • Click the "File" button in the upper left corner of your screen. From the pull-down menu, select "Open." A new search window appears.

  • Search your hard drive for the PDF file you want to open in Preview. Select the file and click "Open." The file now loads in Preview.

  • Close out of Preview by clicking "Preview" followed by "Close." However, while using Preview you can print the document by selecting "File" followed by "Print."
