How to Write Child Care Experience on a Resume

It takes a very specific set of skills to be a child care worker, but more importantly, you have to be able to earn the trust of your employer and the parents of the children you're caring for. The more experience you have, the more you'll be trusted. That's why it's important to write a very detailed resume that includes all of your child care experience when applying for a child care position.

Instructions

    • 1

Create an objective that highlights your skills, abilities and strengths. Let potential employers know what kind of child care experience you'll be bringing to a position. Think of specific skills and strengths that will help you stand out from the crowd. For example, if you have had advanced experience working with infants, mention this in your objective.

    • 2

Include a section that summarizes all your child care qualifications. Include qualifications such as patience, the ability to follow directions, experience with children's activities, knowledge of child psychology, physical fitness and so on. Detail all of the qualifications you have in this section.

    • 3

List all your experiences in the child care field in a professional experience section. These can include formal positions, such as working at a day care center, and informal positions, such as baby sitting or working as a nanny. Include the age groups of children you've worked with, as well as the number of children you've worked with at a single time. For each position, include bullet points for all the responsibilities you had.

    • 4

Add your education to your resume. In this section, include all the child care experience you had while completing your education, as well as the highest degree you have earned. This might include volunteer work, child care or child psychology courses and any licenses or certifications you've received in the child care field.

    • 5

Include a reference section. This section can be at the bottom of your resume. Ideally, your references should be people you've worked with in the child care field. Choose people who know you well and can describe the types of child care skills you have, as well as the specific responsibilities you've had while working with children. Be sure to ask permission before using someone as a reference.

Tips & Warnings

  • Include all your contact information at the top of your resume. This includes your full name, telephone number, cell phone number, home address and email address. You don't want to look like you have anything to hide. Also, you want to be sure potential employers can contact you quickly and easily for an interview.
