How to Start a Husqvarna 51

While convenient for felling trees or cutting down big limbs in your yard, chain saws can be incredibly dangerous to operate. To start a Husqvarna 51 chain saw, you first must follow quite a few safety guidelines. Before you begin, put on some eye and ear protection as well as a protective helmet. Wear heavy-duty gloves and sturdy boots. And never try to operate a saw if you're wearing any loose-fitting articles of clothing. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Set the Husqvarna 51 on the ground.

    • 2

Push the hand guard up toward the front handle.

    • 3

      Slide the ignition to "Start."

    • 4

Set the choke to the full choke position if the engine is cold. If the engine is warm, then skip this step.

    • 5

Place your right foot into the loop of the rear handle. Grasp the front handle in your left hand.

    • 6

Pull the starter handle out fully with your right hand to release the starter cord. Pull the cord slowly until you feel the teeth engage.

    • 7

Pull the starter cord quickly with your right hand about 2 feet. Repeat until the saw cranks.

    • 8

Push the choke back in, if applicable, and apply the throttle.

Tips & Warnings

  • To turn off the engine, move the ignition switch to "Stop."

  • Read and follow all safety procedures outlined in your owner's manual before operating the saw.
