How to Properly Notate a Bachelor of Science

The Bachelor of Science degree is an undergraduate academic degree, generally awarded after a student has completed 3 to 5 years of courses.

1. Depending on the country where the degree was awarded, different English-speaking countries abbreviate the Bachelor of Science in different ways.

2. In the United States, Bachelor of Science is generally abbreviated B.S.

3. Nearly everywhere else in the English-speaking world, including the U.K. and Europe, the degree is denoted as B.Sc.

Tips & Warnings

• In the United Kingdom, nearly all bachelor's degrees are awarded as honours degrees. This may be indicated by placing "Hons" in parentheses after the degree, as in "B.Sc. (Hons)."

• Rarely, the degree is abbreviated S.B. or Sc.B. from the Latin "Scientiæ Baccalaureus."

• In Latin America, the Bachelor of Science degree is known as the Licenciatura.
