How to Assign a Customer Number in QuickBooks

QuickBooks accounting software has had a major impact on many small businesses. In fact, it could be argued that the program has launched a revolution in the small-business world by allowing many businesses to move away from having to use an outside accounting service and instead perform many of the duties themselves. If you are a QuickBooks user, one of the tasks that you may need to learn is assigning a customer number to your customer.

  • Open your QuickBooks software and navigate to the Customer Center by clicking on the icon for it.

  • Scroll down the customer list and locate the customer to which you want to assign a customer number. Double-click on the customer, and a box will open that allows you to edit the customer information.

  • Click on the tab that is labeled "Payment Info."

  • Type the account number you wish to assign to the customer into the corresponding text box.

  • Click the "OK" button to finish the job.
