How to Measure a Dog for a Leather Collar
A leather dog collar is not only attractive and functional, but it will last for years. Leather is a high-quality material that will withstand hard use and abuse by both dogs and owners, while staying strong and looking good around your dog's neck. Make sure you measure your dog properly for a leather collar. It is important that the collar be neither too large nor too small.
Instructions

1
Wrap the tape measure around the dog's neck 2 inches below the head.
-
2
Insert two fingers flat against your dog's neck under the tape measure. Wrap the tape measure snugly, but not so tightly that it is uncomfortable for the dog.

3
Add 1 inch for tiny dogs, and 2 inches for medium and large dogs.

Note the measurement and take the number and the tape measure along with you when shopping for a collar. Although most dog collars include a label with the length printed on it, you might not know whether the measurement is the entire collar from end to end or the length from the buckle to a certain hole in the collar. Measure the collar to make sure its length matches the number you came up with in Step 3.

Tips & Warnings
Leather collars will give over time and get slightly larger. Make sure you adjust the collar if it stretches slightly.
If your dog is still growing, choose a collar that will allow room for growth. Check your dog's collar twice per month to make sure you can still fit two fingers between the collar and the dog's neck.
