How to Install an Irritrol 6 Station Irrigation Timer
Irritrol controllers for homeowners are made for ease of installation. The Rain Dial Series is one of their best and sports a dial which allows ease of control and simplicity. A six station controller will require 7 irrigation wires. Controllers will always require one more wire, the common wire, in addition to the number of stations. Controllers are now made for in door operation and outdoor operation. Outdoor controllers come with weather proof cases. Each station on a controller controls a water zone. How many zones you have depends on the size and the number of plants and lawn you have to water. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions
-
-
1
Shut the power off to the controller. Power to the controller could cause shorts if irrigation wires cross.
-
2
Choose a spot with good access. For many homeowners this is the garage. If you are the primary yard person this can be a good spot but if you have a gardener you might reconsider and put the controller outside. Irritrol along with other sprinkler controller manufactures make outdoor cases for their products.

3
Tape the mounting template to the wall or post you are mounting to. This is a piece of paper with marks that let you know where to drill your holes for the mounting screws. Use a level to make sure this template is level.
-
4
Drill the holes with a drill using the template and then screw the two mounting screws securing the controller to the wall.
-
5
Attach the pig tail to the transformer with a Phillips screw driver, making sure white wire goes to the white terminal and the black goes to black. The green gets screwed on to the ground. Do not plug the power in at this time. Most controllers come with pig tales( power chords) disconnected.
-
6
Run your above ground irrigation wires in gray conduit to the controller for added protection.
-
7
Fill out the station listing on the door of the controller with a marker. This is a detail telling exactly what each station controls, for example, station 1 drip for all plants, station 2 front lawn etc.
-
8
Strip the irrigation wire using wire strippers then pull the colored irrigation wires from the conduit and connect the station wires to the controller in the following order with a Phillips screw driver: station one brown, two red, three orange, four yellow, five green, six blue. Assigning a color increases organization of your system. White is the common wire which has its own terminal. This wire should be connected last and while the power is off. The station wires get connected to a board that is numbered from one to six. You will find this board above the hole for the wires on the bottom of the controller.
-
9
Insert the 9 volt battery into the controller. This battery keeps your programming in event of power loss.
-
10
Turn on your power and program the controller and then test the controller making sure each station runs properly.
