There are several ways a person can use the Internet to make some extra money. A person could join a few survey companies or some paid to read email programs (PTR). As long as a person is careful to only sign up with legitimate companies, he can earn a few extra dollars each month. Though it may be a way to make a full time living it's a great way to get some extra cash for a rainy day.

Research which PTR companies are legit before signing up to any. If you find a site you would like to try, research the company on the Better Business Bureau website (see resources). If the company is legitimate, go ahead and sign up for it.

Check your emails each day. The company will send you emails that it wants you to read. For each email that you open, you earn a few cents. Usually like $.02. If the company sends you ten emails per day, you would earn $.10 per day. If you are registered with several paid to read sites at the same time, you can make even more money.

Look for a referral link when you sign in to each of your PTR accounts. You can tell others about the PTR sites and earn referral fees of a cent or two on all of the emails they read. This is the best way to increase your earnings with paid to read email sites. The more friends you tell who sign up for the programs, the more money you make.

Read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section of the PTR sites you have joined. They will tell you how much money you need to have in your account to cash out. Once you reach that amount, you can click the "Cash Out" button and the company will most likely pay you via Paypal or they may send you checks.

Make sure the survey company you want to sign up with is legitimate by checking with the Better Business Bureau. Some survey companies, such as American Consumer Opinion, will have a BBB reliable symbol directly on the website. This tells you that the survey site is legitimate.

Take the survey questionnaires. These questionnaires are given to see if you qualify for the real survey that will pay you money. If you qualify, you will receive a survey invitation in your email inbox.

Never join a PTR or survey site that requires you to pay an upfront fee to join. These are all scams.
