How to Convert Word to BMP Format
BMP is the standard bit-mapped graphics format used by the Windows operating system. There may come a time when you wish to convert a Word document to BMP format. Reasons for doing so include using the contents of a Word document as your Windows wallpaper or protecting your email address from spam bots when publishing a document containing the address to a webpage. You can perform the conversion using a third-party program called Universal Document Converter and the "Print" command in Word.

Download and install Universal Document Converter if you have not already done so.

Open the Microsoft Word document that you wish to convert to BMP.

Select "Print" from the "File" menu. A window called "Print" will appear.

Select "Universal Document Converter" from the dropdown menu to the right of "Name" in the "Printer" section. Click on the "Properties" button. A screen called "Universal Document Converter Properties" will appear.

Select "Load Settings" from the left-hand pane. The "Open" dialog box will appear.

Click "Text Document to PDF," then click "Open." You will return to the "Universal Document Converter Properties" screen.

Click "File Format" within the left-hand pane. Select "BMP Image" from the dropdown menu within the "General" section. Click "OK" to return to the "Print" window.

Click "OK" to initiate the conversion. Upon completion, your computer will automatically save the BMP to the "My Documents\UDC Output Files" directory. Your computer will go on to automatically open the BMP document in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or a similar program.

Tips & Warnings
You can preserve a Word document's background color or image when converting it to BMP. Click on the "Options" button within the "Print" window and check the "Background colors and images" box.
