Instructions

  1. Creating a Noble Woman's Dress

    • 1

Gather old dresses, skirts, aprons, blouses and stockings. Renaissance women always wore dresses, typically with long, ankle-length skirts. If you only have a long skirt this can be used as well by tucking a long-sleeved blouse into the waist.

    • 2

Cut a slit into the bottom side of each sleeve in the dress or blouse from the wrist to armpit. Sew a piece of fabric between the two sides to give the sleeves a draping effect. Choose the width of the fabric depending on how long you want the sleeve to fall.

    • 3

Sew a strip of lace around the wrist of the sleeve so that the lace falls over your hand. Use either white lace or a color that corresponds to the rest of the dress.

    • 4

Wear tulle or a ballerina's tutu underneath the skirt of the dress to add volume to the piece. Wrap or tie an apron, scarf or long, frilly piece of fabric around the waist and over the skirt for added embellishment and elegance.

    • 5

Clip a brooch or bold and sparkling pin to the center of the blouse at the top of the bust for added extravagance.

Tips & Warnings

  • In accordance with the modesty of the era, ensure the cut of the neckline and the length of the hem are modest in nature.
