How to Set Up a Fax on a Multi-Line Telephone

Despite the popularity of scanners and e-mail, a fax machine is still an essential part of any home office or small business workplace. Most offices use multi-line telephone systems to receive and make calls in order to maximize workplace efficiency, and in these environments many people choose to use one of the secondary lines for faxes. Though there may be some minor variation in the process depending on the model of your phone, most multi-line fax setup can be done in precisely this way.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug one end of the first phone cord (on most model multi-line phones it is the one with the blue connectors) into the "L1" port on your multi-line phone.

    • 2

Plug the other end of the first phone cord into the wall jack that is also labeled "L1."

    • 3

Plug one end of the second phone line (on most model multi-line phones it is the one with the transparent connectors) into the "L2" port on your multi-line phone.

    • 4

Plug the other end of the first phone cord into the wall jack that is also labeled "L2."

    • 5

Plug another phone cable into one of the line-out extension ports on your multi-line phone. Which extension port you plug it into depends purely on your own preference as to which line the fax will use.

    • 6

Plug the other end of that phone cable into your fax machine.

    • 7

Turn on the fax machine and use it as you would normally.
