How to Shoot a Compound Bow Left-Handed
Shooting a bow is an art form that is appealing to many outdoor enthusiasts for the benefits of learning self-discipline and self-control. There are right-handed and left-handed bows, and which one you use should be determined based upon your dominant eye and hand. Similar to right-handed archers, left-handed archers follow a process to shoot the bow with three steps, including drawing, aiming and releasing. The process of drawing and shooting a bow is very complex but can be easily mastered by the dedicated archer.

1
Place your right hand on the bow grip and nock, or line up, the arrow on the bow string in the predetermined position. Keep your right hand relaxed and do not let the grip pass the midline of the palm. Gripping the bow firmly can cause bow or wrist torque resulting in decreased accuracy.
-
2
Attach the release aid on the string directly under the arrow or on the string loop depending on your individual setup.

3
Lift the bow with the right hand and draw the left hand back by pulling with the release aid. Continue drawing the bow until you reach the backstop and full draw. You should feel a solid "wall" at full draw and keep back pressure on the string.
-
4
Find your anchor point by placing the release aid behind your ear and cheek on the string. With a solid anchor point, slowly move the sight pin as you aim toward the target. Slowly pull the trigger of the release aid as you steady the pin over the target.

5
Complete a smooth follow-through by keeping your head and eyes straight ahead and preventing the right arm from dropping. A good follow-through will improve arrow flight and overall accuracy.
