Find Someone When You Only Have a First Name

You met someone at a party, a store or maybe while walking your dog, and the two of you clicked. Then you walked away and realized you never asked for a phone number, have no idea where they work, and you've already forgotten the last name!

Time for you to be your own Sherlock. Through some online searches, and a little investigative deduction, it's possible to find that person.

Instructions

    • 1

Do a reverse search on the name in Google. Because Google is the most comprehensive public search engine available, use it to conduct a reverse search on the person's name along with anything else you picked up on in the conversation. For example, if Nancy talked about going to the Evergreen Conference in Alaska, type "Nancy Evergreen Conference Alaska" in your Google browser, press Enter, and review the results.

Conduct a screen name search. If the person mentioned having a screen name, search it in Pipl, a search engine that offers screen name lookups (see Pipl screen name search in References, below). Enter the screen name, press Enter, and review the results.

Search the first name in a people search engine. Go to 123people.com (see References, below), enter the first name and city, press Enter, and review the results. This search engine checks instances of the name and city in a wide variety of online resources, including blogs, biographies, news, social networking sites, amazon, and so on.

Go back to where you met the person and post a message. In your note, describe who you are, the date you met and that you'd like to stay in contact (be sure to add your phone number). If the person doesn't see the message, someone who knows that person might and forward the message.
