How to Make a Cookbook Cover
The cover of a cookbook provides readers with their first experience of the book. It offers information about the book's focus and entices readers to pick up the book and browse or even buy. A cookbook cover should be both appealing and informative, encouraging you to open the book and learn more about the type of cuisine it covers by giving a concise description as well as an appealing graphic in the form of either an illustration or a photograph. 1
Choose a title for your cookbook that is easy to remember and concisely expresses its theme. "Simple Southern Fare" is a better title than "150 of My Favorite Recipes" because it provides more information in fewer words. If necessary, include a subtitle with additional information about the focus of your cookbook.
-
2
Choose a font for the title. Pick a bold lettering style that is easy to read and consistent with your theme. Comic Sans MS is a lighthearted font, while a French-style script has a more sophisticated feel that might be more appropriate for a cookbook with a gourmet focus.

3
Chose graphics for your cover. These should be attractive, professional-looking and relevant to the type of food that your cookbook is about. You can portray either a particular dish or some of the ingredients that are used in the book, or you can use an illustration that doesn't specifically depict food but is nonetheless consistent with the book's theme, such as a farmhouse for a cookbook about country cooking.
-
4
Prepare an attractive layout for your cover. Use colors that are bright but not too busy. Arrange the graphics and the text so that they complement each other, rather than clashing. For example, if you use graphics as a background, make sure that the lettering is not situated in a part of the design where it blends in with the illustration, making it difficult to read.

5
Write a description of your book and an author bio for the back cover. If possible, solicit endorsements from well-known chefs or food celebrities praising your book.
