How to Make a Parchment Paper Web Background
Website backgrounds are easy to come by these days with so many sites offering free downloadable graphics. However, you may want a background that cannot be found online and that is when you need to get creative and utilize materials that you have lying around your house. Something as simple as parchment paper can make a great web background.

1
Get some parchment paper. Grab a piece with a nice texture to it, as textures are more noticeable in backgrounds and provide more visual appeal than a drab color. If you do not have any parchment paper, you can pick some up at a local office supply store for under 10 dollars depending on brand and texture.

2
Place a piece of the parchment paper on your scanner and scan it into your favorite photo editing software. If you do not have a scanner, take a digital photo of a portion of the paper and load the image into your photo editing program.

3
Crop a section of the image to use as your background. Choose the portion of the paper where the texture is most visible, so that your background looks nice. The middle of the paper can provide the best background, as sometimes the edges of the paper do not have as pronounced a texture. Be careful not to paper with too many noticeable differences in texture in case you do not want seams.
-
4
Resize the image to the width of your web page--maybe 900 pixels or so--and about a third of the height of the original image. Save the image to your pictures folder for easy access.
-
5
Upload the image to your web host and adjust the HTML/CSS to repeat the background image on the y-axis. This will repeat the image up and down the page. You now have a parchment paper background.

Tips & Warnings
If there is a seam in your background, and you do not want this, you will need to go back into your photo editing program and make sure to remove any borders by masking or softening them. Some programs provide layering capabilities, which can make the job a bit easier.
