How to Change the Rear Valance on a Mustang to a GT Valance

In the world of custom cars, there are people who buy the car that they dream of, and others who buy cars of the same body style and then modify them to make them look like the car they dream of. In the case of the Mustang, the base model V6 doesn't have the external body trim, such as the rear valance, but the GT model does. Fortunately, bolting one to the other is as easy as popping a few clips and putting it together.

Things You'll Need

  • Mustang GT rear valance
  • Microfiber towel
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Automotive double-sided tape
  • Phillips head screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Pour rubbing alcohol onto the microfiber towel and rub the alcohol against the bottom of the factory bumper, where the new rear valance will attach as well as on top of the GT valance. Stick the double-sided tape onto the top of the GT valance but do not peel off the top layer.

    • 2

Hold the GT valance up to the bumper and clamp it in place using the vise grips. Use the drill and drill bits to drill a locating hole in the factory bumper through the hole in the GT valance. Then unclamp the valance from the bumper using the vise grips.

    • 3

Peel off the top layer of the double-sided tape and then lift it onto the rear bumper, lining it up with the factory holes. Push the factory clips into the bumper to align it correctly. Then use the Phillips head screwdriver to screw two self-tapping screws into the bumper through the holes you drilled in Step 2.
