How to Build a Boy's Playhouse
Little children love to play imaginatively, especially pretending they are adults while playing house. Encourage your son's imagination by building a boy's playhouse that he will love playing with and showing his friends. While lots of big box stores sell expensive playhouses and kits, there is no need to spend a fortune on building a playhouse. Simple playhouses can be built with materials from your local appliance and home improvement store. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut the flaps off of the bottom of a refrigerator box. Your local family-owned appliance store may be able to give you one of these for free. Otherwise, contact the delivery contractor for your local home improvement store. You can get their number from the appliance department of your favorite store.

2
Pencil in the shape of a door on the side of the refrigerator box. The door could be arched or squared off. You could even make the door shaped like a football, if your son is a sports fanatic.

3
Cut out the door from the refrigerator box and then pencil in and cut out windows.
-
4
Tape the top of the cardboard box together so that it forms a point at the top instead of lying flat. Use duct tape and scrap cardboard to cover any triangular shaped holes on the side.
-
5
Paint the playhouse in your son's favorite color. For a very young child, you could go with a generic blue. Otherwise, ask your son what his favorite color is, or the colors of his favorite sports team.
-
6
Paint any desired designs onto the outside of the playhouse. You might paint athletic balls, a team logo or even a caricature of your son.
-
7
Set the playhouse in the desired location and place large floor pillows inside of it. You might also throw in a few of your son's favorite books or stuffed animals to really make it feel like home.
