How to Change a Login Username for WaMu Online

In late 2008, JP Morgan Chase acquired the banking franchise Washington Mutual, which had become bankrupt during the subprime mortgage crisis. As a customer, if you stayed with Washington Mutual, also known as WaMu, you became a customer of Chase Bank. As such, you now may want to change your username.

      Log onto Washington Mutual (see References). Doing this will automatically bring up a port that gives you two options. The first option is for you to update your site bookmark for WaMu to the Chase Online URL, and the second is a direct link to Chase.

      Enter your old user ID and password. If you had originally set up an online account with WaMu, you can sign in using the same username and password.

      Click on the "Customer Center" tab. Once you have successfully logged in, you will automatically be directed to "My Accounts." At the top of the screen you will see tabs for "Payments & Transfers," "Products & Services" and "Customer Center." Select the last option.

      Click on the "Change User ID" option. Look for this option in the middle of the screen under the section "My Profile."

      Type in the new ID you would like. The system will automatically check to see if it is available; if it is, you will be prompted to make sure you want to change your username. Click "Yes" to complete the process.
