Even with the convenience of text messaging our lovers, writing an old-fashioned handwritten love letter serves a timeless purpose because it provides a lasting reminder to the other partner of what he or she means to you. Also unlike text messages, writing old-fashioned letters requires you to think hard about what you want to say, and it requires some genuine effort. If you're married, the love letters you write could become treasures to your children when they become adults because they'll be reminded of the love their parents shared over the years.
Write The Letter With Sincerity
Mention specifically why you love the person you're sending the letter to. Talk about how this individual's sense of humor brightens up your life or how the person's unconditional love for you, despite your disability, is greatly appreciated.
Reassure your partner that you will be there for him or her, no matter how hard times get. For example, if your partner found out he or she has cancer, state that this person will always be attractive to you, even if the chemotherapy causes the hair loss.
Thank your partner for everything he or she has done for you. Discuss the time when your partner let you use his or her car when it rained hard one night and you couldn't afford a car at the time. Or talk about the time when your partner defended you to his or her relatives when they said false things about you.
Incorporate romance into the letter without being syrupy. If your partner is out of town for a few weeks, state how you miss the person's gentle caresses, passionate kisses and caring hugs when you're having a bad day. Talk about how you plan to make his or her favorite meals when he or she returns.
Apologize for anything you've done that offended your partner. Also use this letter to forgive your partner for doing anything that offended you.
Tips & Warnings
- Stay away from using too much slang in your love letter. The purpose is to say how you feel in a sincere and meaningful way; however, you can address your partner by his or her pet name since it's an informal letter.
