Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a five-panel door from a hardware store. Inquire about having the wood-cutting department cut the door in half or cut it yourself at home. The two halves will be the sides of the daybed.

    • 2

Cut the 1 x 3 wood boards into six strips of the following sizes: four of the strips should each measure the size of the height of the daybed sides. For example, if the door was 80 inches high, the daybed sides are each 40 inches high. The four 1 x 3 strips should measure 40 inches. The remaining two 1 x 3 strips should measure 38 inches each.

    • 3

Use a drill and screws to attach the four 1 x 3 wood strips (40-inch length) to each of the daybed sides. Screw the remaining two 1 x 3 strips to the top of the daybed sides.

    • 4

Apply two coats of primer to the daybed sides if the finished product will be white or off-white. Allow to dry fully. Apply two coats of paint. Attach the daybed sides to a metal bed frame with screws after the paint is completely dry.

Place a box spring on the bed frame and add a daybed skirt before putting on the mattress. Add a comforter (or a bunk-bed "bunkie" for a tailored look) and an array of toss pillows. Select a mixture of king-sized pillow shams and square or round throw pillows for a comfortable and decorative look.
