How to Sanitize Pumice Stone

While professional pedicures are one of the greatest pampering experiences in life, home pedicures can be equally as relaxing. The most important factor in any type of pedicure, however, is keeping all of the pedicure tools clean, sanitized and properly stored. The pumice stone, which is a porous form of volcanic glass used as an abrasive, could harbor a variety of germs and fungi. This tool requires special attention to keep it in a healthy working condition.

Things You'll Need

• Pumice stone
• Boiling water
• Tea tree oil

Instructions

Sanitizing a Pumice Stone

1. Fill a small pot with enough water to cover the pumice stone. Remove the pumice stone and bring water to a rolling boil.

2. Add 10 drops of tea tree oil to the boiling water.

3. Submerge the pumice stone in the boiling water.

4. Remove the pumice from the boiling water after 10 minutes.

5. Store the pumice stone in a place where it is exposed to air and can completely dry between uses.

Tips & Warnings

• To avoid painful abrasions or cuts, never use a pumice stone on dry feet.

• Diabetics should not use pumice stones on feet without a physician's approval.
