How to Clean the Printhead Cartridges on a Lexmark
Lexmark cartridges can occasionally become clogged or dirty which causes streaking and lower print quality. Cleaning Lexmark cartridges can be done quickly and easily with the Lexmark printer's built-in printhead cartridge cleaning function. Activating this feature varies by model, but the overall process is largely the same for each Lexmark printer.

Press "Menu" on the Lexmark printer until you see the "Utilites Menu." Press "Select."

Press "Menu" until you see "Change Printhead." Press "Select."

Open the printer cover. This will bring the carrier to the load position in the center of the printer.

Raise the carrier handle up and then back down. This will reseat the printheads. Close the printer cover.

Press "Menu" until "Utilities Menu" is displayed. Press "Select."

Press "Menu" until "Clean printheads" appears. Press "Select."

Press "Menu" until "Short clean" appears. Press "Select." The printer will clean the heads and print a test page.

Repeat steps 5 and 6 if this does not solve your issue. Next, press "Menu" until "Long clean" appears. Press "Select." The printer will run a more thorough cleaning cycle and print a test page.

Tips & Warnings
If the automatic methods do not work, carefully remove the ink cartridges and wipe the copper contacts with a lint-free cloth. Blow on them gently and replace them.
Automatic printhead cleaning uses a large amount of ink. Use this method sparingly.
