How to Remove a Screen From a Replacement Window

Replacement windows consist of a frame and a screen to keep insects, dust and dirt out of your home. Like your home's original windows, the screens on your home's new replacement windows can be removed for cleaning or for other reasons. Replacement window screens have pull tabs to make the removal process easier. You don't need to use a crowbar or other tool to remove the screens. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

      Unlock the window by turning the lock to the unlock position. The lock location varies by replacement window brand and type.

      Open the window by sliding it up or to the side.

      Locate the two pull tabs at the bottom or side of the window screen.

      If the pull tabs are on the other side of the screen, facing outside, go outside and proceed to the next step.

      Pull the tabs up or inward, depending on their location on the screen.

      Holding the tabs, push out on the screen.

    • 6

      Pull down on the screen to remove it from the replacement window frame.

    • 7

      Place the screen on the ground outside.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your replacement window screens have tension spring latches on the bottom or side of the screens, pull the two tension spring latches inward toward the center of the screen, then hold the latches while you push out on the screen. Pull down on the screen to remove it from the window.
